Columbia Law Enforcement Release Statement on George Floyd Killing in Minnesota

Leaders of the Columbia Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the University Police Department are releasing a joint statement on the tragic death and police killing of George Floyd that took place in Minneapolis earlier this week.

Floyd, a 46 year old black man, died Monday after an officer with the Minneapolis Police Department used his knee on Floyd’s neck to pin him to the ground.

In the statement released yesterday they offer condolences to the victim’s family, friends and his home community.

The release goes on to say in our own community, all law enforcement officers are held to the highest standards, and they will treat everyone fairly and with respect.
