Hunger Action Month is Needed and Appreciated

Phillip Iman, the Director of the Laura Miller George Help Center in Mexico is full of praise for the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri who provide most of the food distributed locally at no cost, not even for delivery.

Iman tells us that the Help Center food bank services about 4,000 people in Audrain County, a full 16-17% of the population. He also says that the number of families supplied has gone up by record amounts every month for almost the last year.

Governor Mike Parson is acknowledging Hunger Action Month in Missouri by lighting the capitol dome orange last night.

The MU Food Assistance & Hunger in the Heartland 2021: State Report for Missouri marks the first time all six Missouri food banks partnered to gather quantitative data about the statewide impact of hunger.

Some of the statistics include the number of children and elderly affected, employment and income, veteran status, health, and trade-offs.

You can see the report at The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri website.
