Columbia Interim City Manager Holds Conference Call on Airport Cancellations

The Columbia Regional Airport is hosting a conference call today (Monday) addressing concerns that led to cancellations of flights over the weekend by some airlines.

Columbia Interim Manager John Glascock released a statement yesterday (Sunday) apologizing for the flight cancellations.

Airlines have indicated they are concerned about the crown on runway 2-20 where it intersects runway 13-31.

The crown is required by the FAA in all main runways to assist with water draining off the runway.

Glascock said this crown can cause the feeling of hitting a bump during take offs and landings.

SkyWest which operates United Express flights at the airport, has temporarily suspended operations due to current runway conditions, there have also been a string of cancellations since Thursday.
