A Vandalia man has been charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon after an incident on February 28.

Vandalia Police were called to the 400 block of Lincoln Street in reference to an unwanted subject. When officers arrived they found 2 males in the front yard and were told an additional male subject was inside and had held a person at gunpoint.

When police made entry into the residence they allegedly found 63 year old Thomas Dwyer brandishing a handgun, and pointing it a man across from him.

Investigation revealed the victim was a resident of the home, and Dwyer threatened deadly force.

Dwyer was arrested, processed and released pending a warrant from the Audrain County Prosecutors Office.
