Mexico School District Looking at Elementary School Alignment

Elementary school alignment is an ongoing discussion with the Mexico School Board.

The topic was again brought up at a special open session last (Monday) night.

Mexico Superintendent Dr. Zach Templeton says they are looking across the district to create efficiency on class size and how to best utilize space.

One proposal is for McMillan Elementary to expand the districts pre-k program, while grades 1 through 5 would either go to Hawthorne or Eugene Field depending upon where you live.

Dr. Templeton says one option is redistricting to create more balance in the district.

According to several board members more discussions will be held in the coming months with a target of aligning the elementary schools in 2020.
