The Missouri Department of Transportation is predicting pavement blow ups could be more prevalent this summer.
Pavement blow ups are caused by a combination of hot temperatures, moisture and weakened pavement.
They occur when the roadway surface expands at a crack or joint where moisture has seeped in, causing the pavement to buckle and warp.
MoDOT says these occurrences are nearly impossible to predict, and ask motorists to report any issues that are found on Missouri roadways.
