Ceres Removed From Capitol Building

The bronze statue on top of Missouri Capitol, known as Ceres, has been removed for the first time since 1924 today.

The statue was removed for a scheduled cleaning and conservation process.

A 550 ton crane removed the statue that weighs between 1500 and 2000 pounds. She is just over 10 feet tall.

The last time any type of conservation was done on Ceres was in 1995.

Part of the process will be to repair the base that connects her to the capitol building dome, as it has deteriorated after nearly a century.

She is being taken to the Conservation of Sculpture and Objects Studio. The process will take about a year.
