Man Arrested For Stealing Ambulance From An MU Health Care Facility

A stolen ambulance from an MU Health Care facility is now recovered and an arrest has been made.

MU Police say they received a report yesterday (Thursday) afternoon around 4 that a man who was later identified as 40 year old Sean M. Smith, had walked out of an MU Health Care facility and stole a ambulance.

The ambulance was found abandoned in the area of Ashland Road in Columbia and Smith was arrested a short time later at the Midway Travel Plaza off I-70 and Highway 40.

Smith was originally brought to MU Health Care by the Missouri Highway Patrol, which had stopped him for a traffic violation, the stop had resulted in a pursuit that ended in Cooper County, he was then brought to the hospital to check for injuries.

Formal charges are pending.
