One Dead and Officer Shot After Vehicle Pursuit in Jefferson City

One person s dead and a Jefferson City Police Officer is recovering after a shooting and a vehicle pursuit last night (Wednesday).

According to the Jefferson City Police Department a vehicle was observed that was wanted in connection to multiple previous shots fired incidents and a pursuit ensued after an attempted traffic stop.

The vehicle reached the area of East Atchinson and Jackson Streets and 2 people exited and fled on foot.

A struggle with one of the subjects took place in a wooded area were the suspect fired a gun and hit one officer in the chest, a 2nd officer returned fire fatally striking the suspect.

The second person was arrested after a perimeter was created and a K-9 eam responded to the area.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

The officer was wearing a ballistic vest at the time of the shooting.
