USPS Warns Missouri Ballots May Not Arrive in Time to be Counted

The United States Postal Service is telling the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office that some ballots requested close to the state’s deadline may not be returned by mail in time to be counted for the November election.

The letter was sent, from USPS General Counsel and Executive Vice President Thomas J. Marshall dated July 31st.

The letter recommends that voters request ballots at least 15 days before Election day or October 19th.

Election officials should use first-class mail, not marketing mail, to send blank ballots an allow one week for delivery to voters.

And Voters should mail in their ballots no later than October 27th.

The letter comes amid discussions and concerns at the national level over funding and preparedness by the United States Postal Service.
