Thirty Five Billion Dollar State Budget Passed Without Expanded Medicaid Coverage

Lawmakers in Jefferson City are approving a $35 billion budget for Missouri that does not include expanded Medicaid coverage.

The budget passed yesterday (Friday) just hours ahead of the constitutional deadline and includes increased funding for public schools, universities, hospitals, nursing homes, and the current Medicaid program.

A bill is also headed to Governor Parson’s desk to establish a tax credit program to pay for kids to go to private schools.

Under the program, private donors would give money to nonprofits that in turn would hand out scholarships.

Donors would then get tax credits equal to the amount they donate.
