In area high school District baseball yesterday (Wednesday) Wellsville-Middletown defeated Community R6 14 to 6.

Wellsville-Middletown has advanced to the Sectionals.

Father Tolton shut out North Callaway 3-0 in the Class 3 District 8 championship.

The Macon Tigers defeated the Centralia Panthers 3-1 in the Class 4 District 6 championship.

The St. Blues lost 6-3 to the Colorado Avalanche in game 2 in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Jordan Binnington made 28 saves.

The Blues played without leading scorer David Perron for the 2nd straight game due to NHL COVID-19 protocol.

The Blues now trail in the series 2-0.

Game 3 is at St. Louis tomorrow night (Friday).

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 at Busch Stadium.

Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty improved to 8-0 in his first 9 starts of the season.

Flaherty has reached rarefied air as only Bob Gibson in 1965 can say that he has done the same in Cardinals history, and only 7 other pitchers can say the same since 1995.

The Redbirds are off today and will host the Chicago Cubs in a 3 game series this weekend at Busch Stadium starting tomorrow night.

The Kansas City Royals used a late rally and came away with a 6-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at the K last night.

Kansas City swept the Brewers in the brief 2 game series and will be off today.

They next play tomorrow night when they host the Detroit Tigers.
