Fulton Woman Pleads Guilty in Shooting Death of Boyfriend

Kalesha Marie Peterson, 40, of Fulton, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the first degree. Peterson admitted that she recklessly caused the death of her boyfriend, David Dalton, in March 2019 by shooting him. Peterson called 911 immediately after shooting Dalton. Officers quickly responded to the residence on East First Street and found Dalton on the floor in the bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the head. The officers attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. Paramedics attempted to treat Dalton, however he died at the scene.

Peterson told investigators that she had been drinking whiskey and had attempted to act out a scene from a movie, Deadpool, when the gun discharged and Dalton was struck. Peterson provided a breath sample that confirmed that she had consumed an alcoholic beverage. Investigators found a partially consumed bottle of whiskey in the bedroom shared by Peterson and the victim and the movie was still playing on a television in that bedroom when the first officers arrived at the residence.

The judge sentenced Peterson to 8 years in prison. The case was investigated by the Fulton Police Department.
