Outdoor Recreation Boosts Missouri Economy

A new study from Outdoorsy shows how outdoor recreation contributes to Missouri’s economy.

According to the study, 2.2% of Missouri’s gross domestic product comes from outdoor recreation, as does 2.4% of total employment and 1.9% of total compensation.

In the study, outdoor recreation includes hobbies and exercises, boating, fishing, sports like golf and tennis, RVing, festivals, sporting events, concerts, amusement and water parks, and snow activities like skiing and snowboarding.

Of those, boating and fishing added the most to Missouri’s GDP which is also the top activity nationwide.

Missouri’s GDP is just over 328.4 billion dollars annually with nearly 7.225 billion dollars of that coming from outdoor recreation.
