Auxvasse Loafer’s Week Gets Underway

August 9th-14th is the 60th Annual Loafer’s Week in Auxvasse. Loafer’s Week is held every year and was delayed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Loafers Week began as a one-day event 60 years ago at the grain elevator and has grown to a week-long celebration. Card games, dominos and other board games are part of the fun. Free coffee, iced tea and popcorn will be available all week for everyone that attends. This all takes place at the new Auxvasse Community Center at 702 South Main Street in Auxvasse beginning at 9am each day.

A meal will be served each day by a local organization. Serving time for the noon meal will begin at 11am. On Monday, the Knipp family will serve a Baked Spaghetti dinner, Tuesday is the Callaway Bank serving Fried Chicken, Wednesday is the Sons of Confederate Veterans with a Potato Bar, Thursday will be the Auxvasse Community Center serving Turkey and Dressing and Friday will have the Lions Club holding a fish fry dinner at 5pm. Saturday at 11am, the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church will serve a pork steak meal ending the week-long celebration.

Loafers Week will be held in the new Auxvasse Community Center and there will be new events. On Tuesday evening, we are participating in a statewide Bicentennial Ice Cream Social from 5pm – 7pm to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Missouri statehood that is free to all attendees but donations will be accepted for the center. The Friday meal will be a fish fry beginning at 5pm.

Everyone attending will be eligible for two $50 cash gifts donated by the United Security Bank. The Auxvasse Lions Club will also be holding a raffle for a Husqvarna Weed-eater all week with the proceeds going to the community center. The winning names will be drawn and gifts given on Saturday, August 14th. You do not have to be present to win.
