The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings at Busch Stadium yesterday (Wednesday).

Cardinals rookie Lars Nootbaar played hero with a walk-off single in the 10th inning.

Redbirds slugger Paul Goldschmidt had 2 bombs in the victory.

St. Louis is 3 and 1/2 games back of the second Wild Card spot.

The Kansas City Royals lost 6-5 to the Houston Astros on the road in extra innings.

Whit Merrifield hit a grand slam for the Royals in the loss.
