Overheard Conversation of a Threat to Mexico Middle School Leads to Investigation

An overheard conversation about a “school shooting” at Mexico Middle School leads to investigation.

According to a letter sent to parents by Principal Julie Lower, a staff member overheard that a student had said something about a “school shooting” and reported it yesterday evening (Thursday).

Administration and the School Resource Officer investigated and determined who made the threat and took steps to resolve the situation.

Staff and students are sage and there is no threat to the school or students.

A copy of the text of the letter:

Dear MMS Parents/Guardians,

On Thursday evening 9/16/21, a report was made by a MMS staff member who overheard that a student had said something about a “school shooting.” MMS Administration and School Resource Officer immediately started an investigation. Through this investigation, we determined who made the threat and steps have been taken to resolve the situation. We have taken measures to make sure all students and staff are sage, and parents do not need to be alarmed as there is no threat to the school or our students at this time.

As always we encourage parents to talk to their children about reporting to adults immediately if they hear of anything that could be a potential safety issue. (If you hear something, say something is what we teach kids at MMS!) We want to ensure all staff and students are safe at all times.

Sincerly,

Julie Lower

MMS School Principal
