Fulton Police Chief Announces Retirement
In a press release sent out today (Thursday) from the Fulton Police Department:
Fulton Police Chief Steven Myers has announced his retirement from the Fulton Police Department effective December 3, 2021 after more than 39 years of law enforcement service in the Central Missouri area.
Myers has served as Fulton Police Chief since 2002 and has led the department with honor and distinction. Chief Myers led with a clear vision to enhance police service to the citizens of Fulton through implementation of community policing programs and building strong relationships with City Leaders and stakeholders within Fulton to keep the community safe while managing the growth of the department as the city grew.
Chief Myers developed a strategic plan to move the police department in 2012 to the current location on South Business 54 and has kept the department moving forward. Chief Myers wanted not just modern equipment such as body cameras, upgraded tactical gear, but also wanted enhanced officer training. A large part of Chief Myers’ forward thinking included the deployment of the Crisis Intervention Team concept and training officers to help identify persons needing mental health assistance which in turn lead to keeping many people safe and handling situations with social services to better their quality of life.
Chief Myers law enforcement career started in Montgomery County working for the Sheriff’s Office in 1982 – 1997; Myers also served as Sheriff in Montgomery County. Chief Myers started working with the Fulton Police Department in 1997 as a member of the MUSTANG Drug Task Force and has received several commendations throughout his career including recognition from Homeland Security and the FBI for his investigative skills and his dedication to public service. Chief Myers throughout his career has had the privilege of meeting Vice Presidents, Heads of State, Congressional Representatives, and dignitaries when they have spoke in Fulton while entrusted to help provide for their security while visiting the city.
The Fulton Police Department wishes Chief Myers all the best in his future endeavors as he continues on his journey to serve the citizens of this community. Chief Myers’ legacy will live on with the Fulton Police Department as he fostered a caring and compassionate culture of forward-thinking initiatives for his officers and the City of Fulton.
