New Mexico Board of Education Member Sworn In and Extra Days Added to Thanksgiving Break During Special Session

A new member of the Mexico Board of Education is now sworn in after a Special Session tonight (Wednesday) at Central Office.

Dr. Thomas Allen was appointed to fill the vacant position on October 25th.

The vacancy was created by Dustin Pascoe’s resignation in September.

Allen spent 14 years as a superintendent, worked as a Guidance Counselor for 8 years and coached football and wrestling.

The Mexico School District is adding two extra days off for the Thanksgiving break this year.

During a special session the Mexico Board of Education approved Monday, November 22nd and Tuesday, November 23rd as non-attendance days for students and staff.

Mexico Superintendent Melissa Chastain says it has been a challenging year with the substitute teacher shortage.

Chastain says the Mexico School District is also experiencing bus driver, custodial and other shortages and they are looking at ways to address that.
