Community R-VI Lady Trojans Headed to Championship Game of Sturgeon Tournament
The Community R-VI Lady Trojans basketball team defeated New Franklin 56-31 last night (Wednesday) in the semi-finals of the Sturgeon Tournament.
It was the third meeting between the Lady Trojans and New Franklin this season.
Community leaders: Sarah Angel 25 pts., 4 steals, 4 assists, Olivia Kuda 12 pts., 6 rebs., Kylie Brooks 6 pts., 4 rebs., Brooklyn Glasgow 5 pts., Kayla Jett 4 pts., Ivy Hays 2 pts., Alexis Welch 2 pts.
Record: 17-1
Community Head Coach Bob Curtis says “The semi-final match-up saw two teams that have faced each other two times this season. It’s hard to beat any team 3 times in a season when you just get more aware of what the other team is trying to do offensively. New Franklin rebounds well and has a very physical group of girls. I feel like we matched them on the boards and just wanted it more Wednesday night. Sarah had a great game getting us off to a good start with 14 points in the first quarter. Finished with 25. Olivia Kuda was a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line adding 12 points and was a strong presence in the paint. Kylie Brooks also gave us a good spark off the bench going 4-5 from the line with 6 points and forcing some turnovers with her length in our zone. The girls are really focused right now on getting better everyday and holding on to their 16 game win streak.”
The Girls Championship is Saturday night at 5pm vs Salisbury at Sturgeon High School.
