It’s state playoff season in high school basketball and a number of area teams remain in contention.

The Wellsville-Middletown boys are playing for third place in Class 1 following an overtime loss last night (Friday) to Stanberry 45-40.

The game was tied 34 all at the end of regulation.

The Tigers play the St. Elizabeth Hornets at Noon today after the Hornets lost to South Iron 85-51 yesterday evening (Friday).

The Hallsville Lady Indians are in the Class 4 quarterfinals, taking on the John Burroughs Bombers this afternoon (Saturday) at 1:00 at Francis Howell Central High School in St. Charles.

In Class 4 boys action, the Mexico Bulldogs are putting their 28-0 record on the line this afternoon (Saturday) at Francis Howell Central High School as they take on the Wolverines from Vashon.

Vashon comes into the game with a win percentage of 85.7% and averages 63.8 points per game, allowing 45.

Mexico averages 67.1 points per game and allows 45.6 points.

Tipoff is set for 2:45.

A nationwide search is on for Mizzou Tigers men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin’s replacement.

The university announced last night (Friday) that Martin would not be returning next season and that they would honor the terms of his contract.

Martin just finished his 5th season as head coach of the Tigers, compiling a 78-77 record.

The Tigers finished this season 12-21 overall, 5-13 in SEC play.

Former college basketball coach and now search consultant Eddie Fogler is assisting Mizzou in the search process.

The Blues are in action early today (Saturday), taking on the Nashville Predators in the music city.

Puck drops at Bridgestone Arena at 11 this morning.
