Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Files Charges Against Teacher for Incident at Eugene Field Elementary School

The Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney has filed two charges against a teacher in Mexico.

Mexico Public Safety completed an investigation in May into an April incident at Eugene Field Elementary School where Katrina Dukes, a physical education teacher is accused of hitting a second grade special needs student with a bag of dodge balls.

The case was also investigated by the Children’s Division Out of Home Division, however the findings of that investigation have not been made public.

KWWR/KXEO news is trying to obtain the probable cause statement.

According to Audrain County Prosecutor Jacob Shellabarger, Dukes is being charged with child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree.

Child abuse is a class D felony and endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree with physical injury is a class C felony.

A court date has not been set as of this time.

Ms. Dukes will be served a summons and notice with her court date.

According to the Mexico School District Dukes is still on paid administrative leave at this time.
