Despite Nolan Arenado hitting for the cycle last night, the Cards lost to the Phillies 5-3.

The Phillies were helped by a tiebreaking home run by Darick Hall and an insurance run by Rhys Hoskins.

This afternoon’s matchup sees lefty Matthew Liberatore facing off against the Phillies right handed pitcher Kyle Gibson with the first pitch scheduled for 3:05.

The Royals picked up a win over the Tigers last night with Vinnie Pasquantino getting his first MLB homer, albeit an unusual one.

In just his 3rd game in the majors, he hit Michael Pineda’s first pitch of the fourth inning to deep right where the ball hit the top of the fence, bounced off a railing and back onto the field.

Pasquantino tried for a double, getting tagged out at 2nd before being told by the Tigers shortstop to get up and finish his home run trot.

The Royals went on to win 3-1.

Brady Singer heads to the mound for the Royals this afternoon, first pitch against the Tigers set for 3:10.

Former St. Louis Blues assistant coach Jim Montgomery is the new head coach for the Boston Bruins.

His contract with the Blues expired yesterday, the same day Boston made the announcement of his appointment.

Montgomery previously was the head coach for the Dallas Stars from May 2018 to December 10, 2019.
