Cardinals Trade Infielder Edmundo Sosa

The St. Louis Cardinals figure to be busy at the trade deadline and have now officially entered the trade waters. It’s not quite the splash most fans expected. The Cardinals have sent infielder Edmundo Sosa to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for left-handed pitcher JoJo Romero. Romero will report to Memphis (AAA) and infielder Paul DeJong will be activated off the Cardinals taxi squad to the Major League roster for tonight’s game.

Romero, 25, has appeared in 25 games with Philadelphia since he made his debut in 2020, compiling a 7.89 ERA over 21.2 innings with 19 strikeouts. He made a career-high 12 appearances with the Phillies in 2020 and recently made two appearances this season after recovering from left elbow surgery.

DeJong played in 51 games in Memphis (AAA) batting .249 with 17 HR and 54 RBI.
