Mexico Public Safety Officer Injured Overnight
A Mexico Public Safety Officer was injured early this morning in the line of duty. The unnamed officer responded to the Casey’s General Store in the 800 block of West Monroe, just before 3am, in reference to a subject who appeared to be passed out in a vehicle.
The first arriving officer contacted DeMarko T Walls, age 30 of Mexico, inside a 2014 Ford. As the officer attempted to check on Walls, he began to quickly back up, running over the officer and striking a parked vehicle.
Additional MPSD personnel responded and rescue equipment was used to raise the Ford and free the officer. The officer was transported to University Hospital by Audrain Ambulance District and has since been released.
Walls was processed at MPSD and later taken to the Audrain County Jail for DWI with Serious Physical Injury to a Law Enforcement Officer.
