Legalization of Marijuana on the Ballot in November in Missouri

Yesterday (Tuesday) Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft certified the initiative petition that will allow Missouri voters to decide if they want to make recreational marijuana legal next November.

Ashcroft is encouraging voters to educate themselves on the initiative and its wording, citing that it is lengthy and has several proposed changes to the state constitution. Missourians would vote on a minimum age of 21 to buy and sell marijuana, whether some inmates would be eligible recipients, and put a 6% sales tax on the drug.

It would also let people grow prescribed amounts of marijuana with a license, create a lottery process to give out licenses and distribute those licenses equally to each congressional district.
