Attorney General Schmitt Seeks to Protect Prices for Farmers

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt sought to block a proposed acquisition by Zen-Noh Grain Corporation and Bunge North America, Inc. and announced success after a federal court entered a final judgement on August 11th requiring the divestiture of certain grain elevators along the Mississippi River before a large asset acquisition could occur between the two major agriculture corporations.

A comment letter from The Missouri Attorney General’s Offices supports the divestiture on behalf of Missouri farmers citing that it would have eliminated crucial buyer competition between grain elevators for the purchase of corn and soybeans.

Further he expressed concern that farmers receive a fair price for their crops saying that this action will ensure that Missouri farmers are protected.
