Unidentified Hallsville Man Electrocuted by Live Wire After Accident

A currently unidentified 22-year-old Hallsville man died early Monday morning when he crashed into a utility pole on South River Road near Higdon Road.

Capt. Brian Leer, public information officer for the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, said it is believed the man was electrocuted by a downed power line, apparently knocked down by the impact. The man left his car and came into contact with the live wire.

Meredith Hoenes, Boone Electric Cooperative’s communication specialist, confirmed that the downed power lines were still energized when repair crews arrived. Power was turned off for about 250 customers in the area between about 1:30am and 5:15am for crew safety.

The investigation is ongoing.
