Two In Jail Following Burglary Outside of Farber

A burglary on Audrain Road 572 in rural Farber lands two in the Audrain County Jail.

According to the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department, the resident received photos from a camera that showed two people entering the back door of the house while he was away.

Investigation indicated the pair were still in the area on foot and K9 assistance was requested.

K9 officers Apollo and Chal arrived and began tracking.

Apollo and his handler, Sheriff Oller, located the two hiding in a culvert a quarter of a mile from the house with items stolen from the house in their possession.

22-year old Jared M. VonVain and 30-year old Kathleen M. Smith, both of Middletown remain in the Audrain County Jail pending the filing of formal charges.

VonVain is held on second degree burglary and Smith is held on second degree burglary and felony possession of a controlled substance.

A third subject was detained and released as part of the investigation with charges to be sought.
