KWWR Sports Report 3/10/23
Mizzou’s D’Moi Hodge, one of the nation’s leaders in steals, is named a finalist for the Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year award.
Hodge is ranked third nationally with an average of 2.68 steals per game.
In high school basketball Final Four action yesterday, in Class 1 St. Elizabeth bested Glasgow 60 – 52.
St. Elizabeth faces South Iron this afternoon at 2:00 while Glasgow plays Jefferson Conception Junction at 10:00 this morning for third place.
In Class 2 boys, it’s the Salisbury Panthers taking on Hartville at 4:00
In Class 2 girls, New Haven battles Bishop LeBlond from St. Joseph at 6:00 and Tipton faces Norwood at 8:00.
Those games are taking place in Springfield.
For Classes 4, 5, & 6, it’s quarterfinal action today for boys.
In Class 4, Father Tolton meets Logan-Rogersville at 4:00, in Class 5, Jefferson City takes on Hillcrest at 5:45, and in Class 6, Battle battles Staley at 7:30 and Troy Buchanan faces Chaminade College Prep at 7:30.
In SEC Tournament play yesterday, it was a pair of upsets as #9 Mississippi State beat #8 Florida 69 – 68 in overtime and #10 Arkansas stunned #7 Auburn with a 70 – 55 win.
The other two games went as predicted with #5 Tennessee handling #13 Ole Miss 70 – 55 and #6 Vandy beat #14 LSU 77 – 68.
Today, Mizzou enters the fray as the #4 seed taking on #5 Tennessee at 2:00.
Other games include #1 Alabama facing Mississippi State at Noon, #2 Texas A&M gets Arkansas at 6:00 and the nightcap is #3 Kentucky and Vandy at 8:00.
If Mizzou wins today, they’ll take on the winner of the Alabama – Mississippi State game tomorrow at Noon.
The Blues picked up a win last night at home over the Sharks of San Jose, 4 – 2.
In Spring Training baseball today, the Royals host the Padres at 2:05 and the Cards take on the Mets at 5:05.
The St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL have their home opener at The Dome at America’s Center Sunday afternoon at 3:00 in front of an estimated 30,000 fans based on ticket sales so far.
