KWWR Sports Report 5/16/23

The Mexico Bulldogs baseball team will look to advance to the championship game of high school district playoffs when they play the Hallsville Indians tonight (Tuesday) in Macon.

The Bulldogs and Indians played each other one other time this season on May 4th when Hallsville squeaked by with a 4-3 win.

The Bulldogs will try to keep the momentum going as they beat Moberly 11-1 on Saturday in round 1 of District play.

Tonight’s game starts at 5pm.

The Community R-VI Trojans will play for a District championship in high school baseball tonight (Tuesday) after beating Higbee 2-0 last night (Monday).

The Trojans play Cairo tonight for the District championship at 5.

Although it has not been officially announced yet the game most likely will be played at Battle High School.

In other District baseball last night (Monday), the 5th seeded Fulton Hornets took down top seed Southern Boone 3-2 in the semifinal.

Fatima defeated Blair Oaks 10-3 setting up a championship game between Fulton and Fatima.

In Mokane, North Callaway lost to their rival South Callaway 6-2.

South Callaway will take on Hermann in the championship game.

The St. Louis Cardinals offense exploded last (Monday) night with an 18-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Andrew Knizner hit a grand slam.

Nolan Arenado hit a home run in a 4th consecutive game.

And Nolan Gorman and Tommy Edman contributed home runs as well.

Cardinals starting pitcher Jack Flaherty struck out 10 batters.

The Redbirds gained a game on the division leading Brewers and are now just 6.5 games back of first place in the National League Central.

The Kansas City Royals were shutout 4-0 by the San Diego Padres.

Former Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha took a no hitter into the eighth for the Padres and struck out a career-high 11.
