Active Investigation Underway by Audrain County Sheriff’s Office After Man Found Dead With Gunshot Wounds in Vandalia

An investigation is underway by the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office after a man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in Vandalia during the afternoon hours of Thursday, November 30, 2023.

According to a social media post from the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department just after 2pm they received reports a person had been shot along Audrain Road 556 in rural Vandalia.

Arriving deputies found a deceased 23-year-old man lying along the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Due to the proximity of the incident the Van-Far School went on a soft lockdown, however there was no threat to the schools.

An immediate investigation into the incident has led to persons of interest being identified and they have been located according to the Audrain County Sheriff’s Office.

No further information is being released at this time.
