Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper and Suspect Recovering from Gunshot Wounds

A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper and a suspect were both shot and taken to the hospital, following a police chase that started in Quincy, Illinois and ended in a shootout in Clarence, Missouri on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

According to a news release from Troop B the police chase started around 8pm Wednesday night at a Quincy restaurant, where the suspect reportedly attempted to get a woman into his car.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene, and Adams County, Illinois, deputies chased the suspect down 172-South.

The deputies terminated the chase at the Mississippi River.

Hannibal police and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers picked up the chase from there, where they found the vehicle on U.S. Highway 36, west of Hannibal.

Spike strips were deployed and the vehicle exited Highway 36 at Missouri 151 in Clarence.

The suspect reportedly exited the vehicle and began shooting at troopers with a rifle.

The intersection of Highway 36 and 151 was closed off during the standoff.

The trooper and suspect both had non-life threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
