Paroled Felon Arrested for Shooting Into Fulton Bar & Grill

The following press release was sent out by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office.

On February 14, 2024, at approximately 12:26 AM, deputies from the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported shooting at a local establishment located in the 7100 block of County Road 407.

Upon arrival, deputies were informed that the staff had ceased serving alcohol to 32-year-old Christopher Bergesch of Jefferson City after he consumed several drinks and was asked to refrain from vaping inside the premises.

The investigation revealed that Bergesch became upset and left the establishment, retrieved a firearm, and fired multiple times into the building.

At the time of the shooting, the building was occupied by several patrons and employees.

The staff promptly secured the doors, while Bergesch attempted to reenter, forcefully banging on the door.

Deputies traced Bergesch to a nearby residence, where he was believed to be staying.

Despite not responding initially, Bergesch was apprehended after accidently falling through the floor of an under-construction addition to the house.

A search warrant executed at the residence led to the seizure of a pistol and ammunition that matched the crime scene.

Bergesch, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms under state and federal laws, as per online records.

The Callaway County Prosecutor’s Office has filed the following felony charges against Bergesch, and a judge has denied bail:

  • Armed Criminal Action
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

Bergesch is currently under Department of Corrections Probation and Parole supervision for a third-degree domestic assault charge.
