Community High Lady Trojans Basketball Will Play for Third Place in the New Franklin Tournament

The Community R6 High School girls basketball team defeated Sturgeon 36-27  in the opening round of the New Franklin  tournament on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Community Leaders:  Aaliyah Welch 11 pts., 6 rebs. 4 assts., Jocelyn Curtis 8 pts. 7 rebs., Peyton Beamer  6 pts. 4 stls. Kat Meyer 5 pts., Amy McCurdy 4 pts., Chloe Johnson 2 pts.

Lady Trojans head coach Bob Curtis says “With such a long break from the last time we played Dec. 17th it was good to see our commitment to the defensive end of the floor was still there.

This win marks the 7th team we have held under 30 points on the season.

Our control of the game clock, hitting the boards hard on both ends, and basketball IQ has led to this great start.

We understand that limiting possessions and making teams play defense longer is leading to higher percentage shots which is an area we needed to improve in during the second half of our season.

On Dec. 17th we went into overtime with Sturgeon in a game that saw us really struggle at the FT line leading to a very close contest.

We were better from the field in the first round of the NF Tournament against the same opponent we were up 13 with about 4 minutes and one by nine due to better shots out of the offense than the first time we played the bulldogs.

We still were just 11-24 at the line which is a point of emphasis of ours at practice everyday.

Senior standout Aaliyah Welch had a great game leading all players in scoring and passing the ball beautifully.

She went out early in the 1st quarter with a nasty cut over her eye that was bleeding but the training staff got her back on the court halfway through the second quarter and she finished the game nicely.

The CR6 girls fell to New Franklin 50-29 in the semifinal game on Thursday, January 9, 2025.

Weather permitting the Lady Trojans will play Fayette in the third place game of the New Franklin tournament at 11am on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
