Man Found Dead In Columbia Home After Standoff With Police

A wanted man in Columbia found dead after a standoff with police last (Thursday) night.

Columbia Police officers went to make contact with a suspect in an ongoing criminal investigation in the 1700 block of Sun Court around 6 last night.

Police say when they tried to make contact with the man, he pointed a firearm at officers in a threatening manner as he fled into the residence.

While members of the SWAT team positioned, the suspect began to fire shots at officers and Columbia Police returned fire.

For more than an hour, the man remained barricaded and armed in the house.

Officers used force to enter the residence after failed attempts to contact the suspect, and found the man deceased.

The case has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol to conduct an independent investigation.
