Jefferson City Council Decides Not to Vote on Civil War Monument Removal

The Jefferson City Council is delaying a vote on a resolution to remove a Civil War monument at the intersection of Moreau Drive and Fairmont Boulevard.

The council met last night (Monday) and was set to vote on a resolution, however decided to push back a vote after concerns were raised about council members not having enough time to look over the resolution.

The monument was dedicated by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1933, to commemorate General Sterling Price.

Four city council members introduced the resolution for the monument’s removal saying the United Daughters of the Confederacy’s ties to the KKK.

Those who want the monument to stay say that removing them is removing American History.
