MU Student Diagnosed With Tuberculosis

University of Missouri officials announced today [Monday] that a student has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis, and has voluntarily left campus.

Dr. Susan Even, director of the MU Student Health Center reports the student has been extremely cooperative with campus and local health officials.

The University is working closely with the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Service to identify additional individuals who might need testing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, TB is most often spread when an person with active tuberculosis of the lungs coughs near other individuals. The disease is spread only through the air.
