The Vandalia Police Department have some new bullet proof vests thanks to some left over money from a capital improvements project.
Chief of the Vandalia Police Department Christopher Hammond says it was time to replace the old vests due to them being old and outdated.
The department bought five new vests, they cost a little over $500 a piece.
Chief Hammond says he hopes to purchase several more of the vests next year.
