Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols is warning people about a scam circulating in the area.

According to the sheriff someone posing as a representative from the IRS is calling and advising that if you don’t pay a certain amount of money, a warrant will be issued for your arrest or the IRS is going to file a lawsuit on you for back taxes.

People are being reminded that the IRS will not contact you by phone, and anyone who receives a call of this nature is advised to hang up on the scammers.
