MEXICO WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT

A Mexico woman pleaded guilty today [Wednesday] in federal court to embezzling more than $150,000 from a Mexico law firm she worked at from 2011 to 2016.

According to the office of the United States Attorney, 55 year old Robyn Smith admitted to stealing cash receipts and making unauthorized charges for her own benefit on the firm’s credit cards, as well as using her employer’s money to pay bills.

Smith’s sentencing is scheduled for April 4. She will face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Restitution will be mandatory.

This case was investigated by the FBI and the Audrain County Prosecutor’s Office.
