The recent freezing temperatures are causing busted water pipes at some area residences.

Patrick Kelly Superintendent at Missouri American Water Company in Mexico says there are several precautions to take to avoid bursting water pipes.

One tip is to leave a small trickle of water running over night.

Kelly says it is also a good idea to wrap pipes in insulation that are exposed to an outside wall.
