LAWSUIT FILED TO OVERTURN VANDEVEN REMOVAL

A lawsuit is being filed seeking to overturn the firing of the former state education commissioner Margie Vandeven by the Missouri Board of Education.

According to court documents teacher Laurie Sullivan filed the lawsuit in November which accuses the board of violating the states Sunshine Law.

In the filing presented to a Cole County Judge this week, Sullivan argues that a board member discussed issues in two closed meetings late last year which should have been made public.

An attorney for Sullivan is arguing that the violation of the Sunshine Law would make all actions taken by the Missouri Board of Education during the two meetings invalid, which would include the firing of Margie Vandeven.
