A Columbia man is facing multiple charges after an arrest for attempting to steal a car and assaulting the owner with a machete.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department says they responded to the 700 block of Demaret Drive about 7:15 last (Sunday) night, found 35 year old Manuel Grajalez-Lopez attempted to drive off in a car but slid on some ice and hit a pile of debris, which disabled the vehicle.

When confronted by a male victim deputies say Lopez produced a large machete and threatened the victim.

The victim sustained a small non-life threatening laceration.

Deputies say they arrested Lopez a short distance from the scene with a machete in his hand, and took him to the Boone County Detention Center.
