OFFICER IMPERSONATOR IN COLUMBIA

A person impersonating a police officer is being reported in Columbia.

According to the department, on Saturday a man impersonating an officer pulled a driver over in Columbia.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with short dark hair, and a salt and pepper full beard, and black square rimmed glasses.

At the time of the stop, he was wearing a dark colored uniform, with a badge and duty belt. He was driving a dark colored, full size SUV with a yellow and red light bar. There were no other markings on the vehicle.

Police are reminding citizens that if a driver is being pulled over and feels the person stopping them is not an officers, they may continue to drive until they find a safe, well-lit location. Drivers should also reduce speed, turn on their hazard lights and call 911 to report their suspicions.
