A hit and run accident early yesterday [Sunday] morning has left one person dead.

According to the Fulton Police Department, officers were called to Highway 54 for a male subject who was walking in the road. Prior to officers arrival, additional callers reported he had been struck by a vehicle around 1:36 AM.

The vehicle then fled the scene, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fulton Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are working to gather information on the incident.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing.
