An arrest is made in the suspicious death investigation of an infant in Columbia.

According to police 20 year old Cortavia Emon Smith was arrested yesterday (Monday) morning after detectives determined the infant was found to have bruising to her upper torso and the head and was in the care of the Smith.

The man who is the father of the six month old baby allegedly told police he accidentally kicked the infant while at a house in the 200 block of Switzler Street.

The infant was pronounced dead at Women’s and Children’s Hospital yesterday (Monday) morning.

Smith is being charged with first Degree Felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child a bond has yet to be set.
