MAN SEEKS TO WITHDRAW GUILTY PLEA TO MURDER

A Jefferson City man is asking to withdraw a guilty plea entered in connection with the 2014 murder of a six year old boy.

A hearing will be held today (Thursday) where 30 year old Scottie Willet’s public defender will argue that his client be allowed to take back his guilty plea due to his mental capacity preventing him from completely understanding what the plea meant.

Willet plead guilty to shooting 6 year old Dayne Hathman at the boy’s home where Willet was living at the time.

Willet was sentenced to life in prison without paroled by Judge Jeff Harris.

According to court records Willet scored within the 7-12 age range in neuropsychological testing.
