Jefferson City Council Exploring Use Tax For August Ballot

The Jefferson City Council is looking at putting a municipal use tax for online purchases for the August ballot.

The council agreed to put an ordinance together at last (Monday) nights meeting.

Currently companies like Amazon and other online out of state business’s are not required to pay municipal tax when selling their products to customers in Jefferson City.

Local business owners say they have difficulties in competing with online retailers and the use tax would level the playing field.
