A Hannibal man is dead after drowning at Spencer Creek on the Salt River in Ralls County over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the accident happened Saturday evening around 5:15 three miles north of Frankford.

Troopers say 20 year old Isaiah J. Vaughn was an inexperienced swimmer, and began to go under the water, several people tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.

A Marion County deputy was able to locate Vaughn while performing dive operations.

Vaughn was taken by the ambulance to the Hannibal Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
